We always asked our-self the question ” is it safe ? can i live the door open ?” when we looking for new home or moving to a new place and the answer to those question will be the New interactive local crime maps in every area by 2009 in UK.
The Home Secretary has announced every neighbourhood in England and Wales will have access to the latest local crime information through new interactive maps by 2009.
Jacqui Smith said that by the end of the year every police force area will produce crime maps that will let surfers see where and when crime has been committed…
Now let’s dig it a bit.
I really think it’s a very good news but in other hand it’s going to create few Ghettos.
Who in their right mind want to go to high crimes area? not me for sure.
For instance a lovely friend of mine recently won a bid on a house in the Peckham area and moved in just to realized she has made the mistake of her life.She said the crime rate is so high that she never walk home in the night by herself after works.
And the worst part is you don’t heard much about crimes in the area in the news and almost every week there is gunshot or crime.
Now if she has had access to crime maps she would never go there she said.
But i said well even with crime maps the rate of crimes will not lower but mostly turn the area to ghetto and eventually higher crimes rate.
My solution is Police should do more, medias, TV stations, news magazines should start highlight those crimes instead of focusing on war, Hollywood stars and their crazy life, immigration issue, reality TV and so many annoying stuff about others countries.
The media give us so many bullshit to distract us from reality and i wish they just give a little more to those really affecting people lives.
And the business side of this crime maps thing, price of homes in low crime rate will definitely rise while others decrease.
Anyhow we will see what the future hold for those high crimes area and if this really manage to lower crimes , certainly it will make some happy in their decision making.
